Cyklone Flow Regulator, CYD
Cyclone Flow Regulator, type CYD ("D" = dry) is manufactured with capacities from 20 l/s up to 600 l/s (see diagram). It is used wherever a flow regulator has to be installed on the inspection chamber's inlet. The flow regulator is designed for semi-dry/dry installation. If a mounted submerged cyclone flow regulator is needed, please refer to the CYE product description.
The CYD flow regulator can be used for all types of drainage water, i.e. rainwater, waste water or a mixture of rainwater and waste water. Two types are available: CYDV and CYDX; they are designed differently and have different capacity ranges as follows:
- CYDV: 20-500 l/s
- CYDX: 25-600 l/s
All CYD flow regulators have a replaceable outlet cone, which makes it possible to adjust the mean capacity by at least ±20%. If you wish to change the capacity, you can contact Mosbaek A/S. We identify the flow regulator from its reference number and then calculate the dimension of an outlet cone to correspond to the new capacity.
We identify the flow regulator from its reference number and then calculate the dimension of an outlet cone to correspond to the new capacity. Available options are as follows:
- CYDV is perfect for situations in which the pipeline structure is 90°, as two 45° directional changes are built into the flow regulator.
- CYDX is perfect for situations with a pipeline structure of 45° but it can also be used for straight throughput and a 90° directional change.
The design of Mosbaek's Cyclone Flow Regulator CYD ensures a mean discharge that is significantly higher than simple flow-control techniques. It has steeper flow-control characteristics and can maximise discharge at both the peak of the characteristic's curve and the design point (hdesign Qdesign). See an illustration of this in the characteristic for the CYD regulator.
This ideal design gives Mosbaek's Cyclone Flow Regulator unique flow-regulating properties. It explains why Mosbaek's flow regulators have the biggest orifice openings and minimise the risk of clogging. During operation, the flow regulator's orifice opening is unchanged; it does not gradually get smaller when the water level rises, as is the case for some flow-control techniques.
In many instances, the Cyclone Flow Regulator can be built into existing or custom-designed chambers or tanks as it requires very little space.
The Cyclone Flow Regulator, type CYD, is mounted on the inlet of the chamber, making it semi-dry/dry during operation. For installation, a fairly low downward height difference is required, i.e. an almost horizontal (level) throughput. This type of flow regulator is designed to be embedded in concrete. The accumulation of sediments is minimised by casting benching with a downward slope from all sides toward the manhole channel, as this diverts water away from the chamber/flow regulator. It is also easier to clean the structure by flushing it out from above before descending. This enables inspection, service or capacity changes under hygienic conditions.
The rounded bottom through the flow regulator and a directional change of only 45° maximises Mosbaek's Cyclone Flow Regulator's self-cleansing properties.
