Flow regulators without a vortex effect

Flow regulators without a vortex effect

There are two types of flow regulators: those which primarily control flow with centrifugal force and those that control flow without it. The following describes flow regulators without a vortex effect in more detail.

Single baffle and double baffle flow regulators throttle water flow without a vortex effect. They are an appropriate alternative for some projects, notably those involving particularly large water volumes usually with relatively low heads. These are typically used where a cyclone flow regulator would be too big for most inspection chambers, very expensive and completely incapable of attenuating flow using the vortex effect. A single baffle or double-baffle requires less space and is less costly, but its orifice opening is smaller.

Baffle flow regulators have vertical plates in front of the outlet hole, which exert resistance by shutting off part of the outlet.

The diagram shows the combinations of Q and h where these types of flow regulator are most frequently used.
